A Proud History Of Quality Veterinary Medicine
Shiloh Animal Hospital has been serving families in the Dayton area since at least 1959 (possibly as early as 1956). It began as an independent family business and remains that way to this day. The founder was Dr. Richard Reinhard. He and his wife Ruth were both active in the practice. The original practice was located in an old A & P grocery store near downtown before moving to its current location.
In 1985, Dr. Kris Hall bought the practice and continued to see it grow and mature. Dr. Hall’s compassion for his patients and medical expertise became the trademark of this practice. A few highlights during Dr. Hall’s time as owner was over 25 years as the veterinarian for the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery’s Zoo, the building of a larger more modern building and his interest in technology. Dr. Hall incorporated Laparoscopic surgery and surgical and therapy lasers earlier than many other clinics in the Dayton area.
Dr. Mazzei grew up on Knecht Dr., just a five-minute drive from the clinic. As a teenager she met Dr. Hall while working at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery as a junior staff member. Dr. Hall became her mentor and she went on to work for Dr. Hall at Shiloh while in high school. Dr. Mazzei graduated from vet school in 2002 and worked at several clinics in the Dayton area before joining Shiloh Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian in 2013.
In April of 2017 things came full circle as Dr. Hall sold the practice to Dr. Mazzei. At this time Dr. Mazzei’s husband, Mark, joined the team as the practice manager. Mark was already a familiar face at Shiloh Animal Hospital as he had worked for the previous 17 years at the Boonshoft Museum as Curator of the AZA accredited Discovery Zoo, working closely with Dr. Hall during this time.
The first five years of Dr. Mazzei’s ownership were eventful as the clinic and surrounding community were impacted by the 2019 “Memorial Day” tornados that devastated the Dayton, Ohio area. Fortunately, our hospital building was spared serious damage but the 100-year-old house and free-standing garage that share the property had considerable damage. After a year of recovery, we quickly entered the pandemic! Thanks to the wonderful loyalty of our patients and clients though, we continued to rebound and grow despite these naturally occurring obstacles.
After selling, Dr. Hall trimmed his hours but continued to practice medicine until 2022. It took almost two years to find the right doctor, but in April of 2024 we were excited to welcome Dr. Regina Lockhart to our practice. 2024 also brought some renovations to our building including an additional exam room to help us see clients more efficiently.
We plan to continue the tradition of quality medicine and compassionate care that has been our mission since day one. We are proud to be a family-owned independent veterinarian serving the Dayton Community and are honored our staff are so dedicated to our mission and our patients. We are also thrilled and thankful that our clients remain so loyal and trust Dr. Mazzei and Dr. Lockhart with their cherished family members.
